(1) Shipping Index of Main Chemicals (2020 = 100)

  • The March shipment index exceeded the previous month for the first time in four months.
  • It fell below the previous year's level for the four consecutive month.
  • By product, sales exceeded the previous month‘s level in seven fields except synthetic fiber raw materials and EO.
  • It fell below the previous year’s level in six sectors excluding plasticizers, synthetic rubber, and inorganics.
In the January–March quarter, sales increased by 1.3% year-on-year, driven by steady performance in high-performance sectors such as semiconductors and electronic materials. However, amid sluggish conditions in the petrochemical market, operating profit decreased by 1.0% year-on-year due to lower operating rates at ethylene facilities—a result of the situation in the Middle East—which reduced efficiency, as well as the burden of higher raw material and fuel prices and adverse exchange rate movements.
